Anthony Mazzella Plays Valentine’s Day Concert at OTCA
Celebrate Valentine’s Day with Mazzella, Ruby & Wine

World renowned guitarist Anthony Mazzella will present a special Valentine’s Day Concert at Old Town Center for the Arts on Friday, February 14th at 7:00 pm. Following four previous sellouts at OTCA Anthony returns to dazzle concertgoers with his deft defying abilities on acoustic and electric guitars. http://anthonymazzella.com

The Valentine’s evening will begin with a special arts opening and wine tasting at 6:00 pm to celebrate the newly installed art of Nancy Ruby. The fourteen paintings are mostly landscape art, oil on canvas and depict vistas of our Verde Valley. Concert sponsor Pillsbury Wine will be pouring samples of their Goddess, Symphony 2012, and Diva 2011 for this pre-concert art opening.

For the Valentine’s Day concert Anthony Mazzella will play classical guitar music in the first half from his recordings and repertoire that lends a lush sonic landscape and romantic mood to the evening’s festivities. For the second half Anthony will feature his electric fingerstyle interpretations of iconic rock covers from Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, U2, Hendrix, Van Halen, Santana, Clapton, and others.

Mazzella is one of the most virtuosic and passionate guitar players in the world today. His performance career began in New York at Manhattan’s Café Wah, Birdland, CBGB’s and the famous Blue Note, and he has spent years touring the U.S. and world stages as a soloist and as the concert guitarist for world music master Omar Faruk Tekbilek. Among notable appearances, Anthony performed at The Vatican in Rome, Italy where he lived for several years.

Anthony’s original guitar music is composed with a fusion of world influences consisting of acoustic and electric finger-style, classical, flamenco, jazz, funk, R&B, Celtic, ambient, rock, medieval & near-eastern styles. He has opened for headlining artists, James Brown, Tower of Power, The Commodores, and Spyro Gyra. He has recorded six award winning albums, including four solo efforts: Electric Fingerstyle Guitar, Unity, Heavenly Guitar and Ritual. His collaboration with Chris Spheeris, BRIO, won “best acoustic instrumental album of 2001” by NAV, and the self titled “Electric Harp Guitar Group” CD with William Eaton and Fitzhugh Jenkins was selected as one of the top 25 albums of 2007 by Echoes syndicated radio program.

Nancy Ruby was raised and educated in Texas graduating from Trinity University in 1978 with a degree in art and a focus in painting. She worked and lived as an artist in the commercial and fine art field in Houston for 30 years moving to Sedona in 2008. Her intention in making art is to connect spiritually to the land and allow that connection to direct the outcome, telling stories through her increased awareness of how the landscapes are moving her and those who have lived here before.

This special Valentine’s evening of music and art is sponsored by Pillsbury Wine, who will be offering wine samples for the pre-concert art opening reception at 6:00 pm. Pillsbury Wine Company is the evolution of a Dream-Come-True project by New Zealand Film Director Sam Pillsbury. His intuition for finding an excellent high altitude growing location in Arizona has rewarded him with the ‘Best Local Winemaker’ distinction for the past four years from Phoenix Magazine. The Wine Spectator called him one of the ‘Rising Stars of the Southwest’, and Janis Robinson in her new book ‘American Wine’ wrote that he makes ‘some of Arizona’s finest wines.

Invite your special Valentine for an evening of art, wine and music at Old Town Center for the Arts.

Tickets for Anthony Mazzella are $18 in advance, $20 at the door, and $25 priority seating. Tickets are available online at www.showtix4u.com, in Cottonwood at Desert Dancer and Mount Hope Natural Foods; and in Sedona at Crystal Magic. Old Town Center for the Arts is located at 633 N. 5th Street (5th Street & Main) in Old Town Cottonwood. For more information please visit oldtowncenter.org or call Elena Bullard at 928.634.0940.
